UFC Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley is already preparing for a fight against top contender Demian Maia.
On Tuesday, Woodley posted a video of him at the gym. Woodley was accompanied by his new training partner, a backpack. It didn’t matter what exercise Woodley was doing, he always wore the backpack.
The backpack is a reference for Maia grueling fighting style. On Saturday, at UFC 211, Maia defeated fellow contender Jorge Masvidal. For a large portion of their fight, Maia held Masvidal in a backpack position. It didn’t matter if Masvidal was on the ground or standing, he struggled to get Maia off of his back.
After Maia won his seventh straight fight, UFC President Dana White confirmed Maia would be next to fight Woodley for his title.
In the video below, you can watch Woodley train with a backpack on in preparation for Maia.
