UFC 211, on Saturday, will take place under the old unified rules for mixed martial arts.
Since the state of Texas has yet to adopt the new unified rules, UFC 211 will follow the old rule book.
In 2017, states and other foreign commissions began implementing the new rules for MMA fights. These rules include instructions on what you can and cannot do while competing, and how a fight should be scored by the judges.
The new unified rules feature new rules when it comes to reaching towards your opponent and what qualifies as a ground opponent. In the new rules, fighters are penalized if they reach out towards their opponent with all of their fingers spread apart. Fighters with one hand touching the ground, but who are on both feet, are also no longer considered to be a down opponent.
UFC 211 takes place May 13 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.
