UFC President Dana White was blown away by Nate Diaz when he knocked out a much larger man.
In 2010, at UFC 111, White was backstage as Diaz made his welterweight debut and fought Rory Markham.
Not only was Diaz moving up from 155 pounds, he was also fighting a man who severely missed weight. Markham weighed in for their welterweight fight at 177 pounds.
Despite the large size difference, Diaz defeated Markham by TKO in the first round.
Below, you can see a video of White watching the fight on a small monitor backstage. After Diaz won the fight, White couldn’t help put to give him a round of applause.
“Nate Diaz is a real fighter, man,” White said while watching the fight. “Nate stepped up and took that fight knowing the guy was 10 pounds heavier than him. Took the fight anyway and ended up stopping him in the first round.”
