On Saturday night, the UFC returned to the land down under for an exciting Fight Night event in Auckland, New Zealand.
In the main event, two of the best heavyweights in the UFC were set to do battle as Mark Hunt fought Derrick Lewis.
But before the pivotal heavyweight battle, the UFC once again featured a full night of intriguing bouts.
The night opened with a strawweight fight on UFC Fight Pass. Chan-Mi Jeon made her UFC debut as she fought JJ Aldrich.
Both women exchanged kicks to start the fight. Jeon landed kicks to the legs and body of Aldrich. Whenever Jeon landed, Aldrich would retaliate with a punch. Aldrich later landed a clean head kick. Jeon ate the kick and came back with some offense of her own. Jeon later knocked Aldrich to the ground, but she immediately got back to her feet. Both women continued to be active and aggressive throughout the opening round.
Jeon threw more volume at the start of the middle round, but Aldrich landed the cleaner shots. Aldrich began landing combinations of punches and kicks. Aldrich’s combinations seemed to lower Jeon’s volume of strikes. Jeon continued to be aggressive throughout the round. Jeon was losing the technical battle against Aldrich but began brawling with her opponent to finish the round.
Jeon was much more aggressive to start the final round. Aldrich managed to bust open the South Korean fighter. Aldrich began throwing much more volume compared to the first two rounds. Aldrich activity seemed to slow Jeon down. Later, Aldrich landed a spinning head kick, but Jeon ate it and began taunting her opponent. Whenever Aldrich landed a clean shot, Jeon would smile. Aldrich kept her distance from Jeon but managed to continue to land strikes to finish the fight.
Official Decision:
JJ Aldrich def. Chan-Mi Jeon by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
