UFC Results: Former Moraga Demolishes Mokhtarian, Ends 3-Fight Losing Streak


On Saturday night, the UFC returned to the land down under for an exciting Fight Night event in Auckland, New Zealand.

In the main event, two of the best heavyweights in the UFC were set to do battle as Mark Hunt fought Derrick Lewis.

But before the pivotal heavyweight battle, the UFC once again featured a full night of intriguing bouts.

Former UFC title challenger John Moraga competed on the prelims as her fought Ashkan Mokhtarian.

Moraga landed a leg kick to start the first round. Mokhtarian went for a takedown, but Moraga went for a guillotine choke. Mokhtarian fought the choke for as long as he could and eventually made his way to his feet. Moraga then managed to take his opponent’s back. Mokhtarian then reversed the position. Moraga then gained top position and took his opponent’s back again. Moraga then landed brutal elbows at the end of the round and went for an armbar, but there wasn’t enough time left on the clock.

Moraga opened the second ground with a straight jab and a leg kick. Mokhtarian landed a few strikes of his own, but Moraga retaliated with a flying knee. Every time Mokhtarian got close to Moraga, he ate either a punch, knee, or kick. Morga later secured a takedown and moved into side control. He then gained full mount and began throwing down strikes. Moraga then took his opponent’s back briefly before regaining mount. Moraga once again moved to Mokhtarian’s back to finish the round.

Mokhtarian began the final round with a couple of kicks, but he was quickly taken down. While on top, Moraga landed brutal elbows and punches. Moraga then went for an armbar, but Mokhtarian escaped. Moraga then managed to secure another takedown. After moving around on the ground, Moraga went for a choke, but his opponent escaped. Moraga later gained full mount. After landing ground-and-pound, Moraga went for an armbar, but Mokhtarian escaped to finish the fight.
