Athletic Commission Forces UFC Fighter Up A Weight Class, In New First

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight Drew Dober earned himself an impressive victory at last weekend’s UFC 214 event. The fighter faced off against Joshua Burkman on Saturday night, earning himself a first round knockout victory over his opponent. However, it would appear that the fighter has another battle to fight outside of the octagon.

As reported by MMA Fighting, Drew Dober “must move up in weight” unless cleared by a medical physician to perform as a lightweight. The decree comes from the CSAC medical suspensions sheet following UFC 214.

On fight day, Dober came in at more than 18 percent above the 155-pound division weight. The newly defined CSAC rules claim any fighter over 10 percent above the weight class should be suggested to move divisions.

“Fighter must be cleared by physician or must move up in weight due to greater than 18% weight increase. Fighter needs to be in a heavier weight class per medical evaluation.” The document states.
