Former UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St-Pierre is adamant about fighting for the UFC middleweight title.
On Thursday, St-Pierre sent text messages to UFC President Dana White and UFC Middleweight Champion Michael Bisping requesting a title shot.
St-Pierre challenged Bisping to a fight at the next UFC event to be held at the historic Madison Square Garden in New York City. The UFC is expected to host a pay-per-view event at MSG on Nov. 4.
Earlier this year, the UFC announced St-Pierre would return to the sport and fight Bisping for his title. However, St-Pierre is suffering from an eye injury and will not be able to fight until November. With St-Pierre being injured, the UFC canceled the fight.
Bisping is also suffering from a lingering knee injury and also isn’t able to compete until the end of the year. With both fighters not being healthy, both men have agreed to fight at a later date.
However, White has come out and said Bisping will defend his title against the winner of Yoel Romero and Robert Whittaker, while St-Pierre will challenge for the welterweight title when he is ready to return.
Spoke to GSP today. He sent a text to Bisping and Dana White this AM formally challenging Bisping to fight on 11/4 at MSG. No response yet.
