Former UFC title challenger Jake Shields is no longer focused on winning titles. Instead, he’s hoping to win $1 million.
With the World Series of Fighting turning into the Professional Fighters League, their new goal is to hold tournaments where the winner receives $1 million.
The first PFL tournament is expected to feature welterweight fighters sometime next year.
“I’ve got to see how everything’s structured, but that’s probably the plan,” Shields told MMAjunkie. “I’ve got to win that million dollars to keep paying that rent.”
Before Sheilds can plan to fight in the PFL tournament next year, Shields must focus on his upcoming opponent later this month.
Shields is scheduled to fight Danny Davis Jr. at PFL: Everett on July 29.
“He’s a guy I don’t really know anything about,” Shields said. “I’m sure I’m the big favorite. I think I’ve beaten five UFC or PRIDE champs. When you have a record like that, and you fight somebody you’ve never heard of, makes it a little tough to get psyched up for. But my mindset is to take it serious, because you don’t want to lose to the guy you’re supposed to beat.”
