At March’s UFC 209 event, Alistair Overeem knocked out Mark Hunt with knees in the third round of their heavyweight clash.
Prior to the bout, Overeem fell ill with food poisining, and was given an approved I.V. to aid him with the recovery.
His opponent Mark Hunt believes he wasn’t really sick, and instead believes he used the excuse to cheat and loophole around the no I.V. rule.
Now, taking to “The MMA Hour”, Overeem responded to these claims, and it’s brilliant.
He said,
“You know, I don’t know. Mark is also one of those veteran fighters. I respect him a lot.”
“In the end he is just a talker. I fought him twice. I broke his arm and then I beat him again [at UFC 209].”
“I’m 235 [pounds], he’s 280 [pounds]. I broke his arm on five days notice.”
“Now [at UFC 209], I had a good camp, but I had food poisoning the day before, and I knocked him out. I don’t know what he (Mark Hunt) wants from me.”
“He’s just talking because he has no facts, has no evidence. He has nothing to back it up.”
“Mental wise I think he’s a little bit out there.”
“I beat him twice. I knocked him out. I imagine it bothers him… If you get knocked out in a real fight, you’re dead. I think it’s humiliating for him.”
