On Tuesday, all-time boxing great Floyd “Money” Mayweather and UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor finally went face-to-face.
Mayweather and McGregor had their first staredown after the first press conference for their highly anticipated boxing match.
The first press conference for Mayweather vs. McGregor took place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
You could feel the tension in the air when Mayweather and McGregor were finally in the same room as each other.
To no one’s surprise, McGregor has a clear size advantage over his next opponent. Mayweather primarily competes at 147 pounds, while McGregor has fought as high as 170 pounds.
After almost two years of being retired from the sport of boxing, Mayweather is competing for the 50th time in his illustrious career. He will be putting his perfect 49-0 record on the line when he steps into the ring with the UFC champion.
McGregor will be making his professional boxing debut against Mayweather. Despite having no professional boxing experience, McGregor is one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world of MMA. He is the only UFC fighter in history to hold two UFC championships at the same time.
Mayweather will fight McGregor in a 12-round boxing match that will be contested at 154 pounds.
Mayweather vs. McGregor will take place Saturday, August 26 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
UFC fans will have to pay much more than they’re used to watch McGregor’s next fight. Mayweather vs. McGregor will cost $89.95 to watch on pay-per-view. The event will be $10 more if you want to watch in high definition.
Tuesday’s press conference was the first of four to take place this week. In the next three days, Mayweather and McGregor will travel to Toronto, New York, and London to promote what will be one of the biggest fights in combat sports history.
