On Saturday, the UFC hosted its most stacked card of the year with UFC 214 in Anaheim, California.
The UFC Fight Pass prelims were headlined by a women’s strawweight fight between Kailin Curran and Alexandra Albu.
Both women came out swinging to start the fight. Albu then began to land brutal combinations before she pulled guard. She then went for a leg lock, but Curran escaped and gained dominant position. Curran landed multiple clean punches from the top. Albu managed to fight her way to her feet. Albu then unloaded with punches and then got the fight to the ground. Curran got back to her feet and both women went back to exchanging punches. In the final minute, Albu landed another takedown and unloaded from on top. Curran got to her feet and got the fight against the cage to finish the round.
Curran appeared to be the fresher fighter to start the second round. Both fighters traded strikes early in the second round. Albu secured a headlock and got a takedown. Curran kicked Albu off of her. Albu then landed another headlock takedown. Curran then landed an illegal up kick on the ground, but Albu allowed the fight to keep going. Curran then managed to get back to her feet. Albu then landed a plethora of body kicks and punches. The round ended with Albu failing to secure a takedown.
Curran landed multiple punches to start the final round. Albu retaliated but Curran seemed to get the better of the exchanges. As the round went on, both women landed clean punches to each other’s faces. Albu went for a takedown but Curran ended up on top. Curran then smothered Albu on the ground. In the final minute, Albu fought her way to her feet. Albu then landed a takedown of her own in the final seconds. The fight ended with Curran getting up and taking Albu down.
