UFC International Fight Week is upon us and on Friday the UFC hosted The Ultimate Fighter: Redemption Finale in Las Vegas.
The night featured an exciting lightweight battle in the main event and the crowning of a new TUF champion, but the night also featured a full night filled with exciting matchups.
Brad Tavares took on Elias Theodorou in a fight between two middleweights on the cusp of being among the best of the division.
Theodorou started the fight by throwing a lot of punches and kicks. Tavares responded with landing a takedown. As the round went on, Theodorou started throwing less volume, while Tavares began landing more punches and leg kicks. The round ended with Theodorou landing kicks to the body, while Tavares retaliated with a right hand.
Theodorou landed a takedown after both fighters landed a few strikes to start off the middle round. Tavares quickly got to his feet. Both fighters then began to trade dominant position up against the cage. They then began to engage in dirty boxing in the center of the cage. Theodorou began landing strong knees and kicks to the body. The round ended with both fighters landing shots.
Theodorou shot for a takedown right as the final round began. After struggling, Theodorou got the fight to the ground. Tavares got to his feet, but Theodorou fought to land another takedown. Theodorou struggled to keep Tavares on the mat. Tavares later managed to take his opponent’s back. He went for a rear-naked choke, but Theodorou escaped. Theodorou fought his way to his feet at the end of the round. The fight ended with both guys throwing blows.
