In the main event, Robert Whittaker won the Interim UFC Middleweight Championship by winning a decision against Yoel Romero. The two fought in an exciting back-and-forth battle that saw Whittaker just barely walk away with the UFC title.
In the co-main event, Alistair Overeem defeated former UFC Heavyweight Champion Fabricio Werdum by majority decision. The two heavyweight contenders fought in an extremely close battle that could have seen either fighter earn the decision win.
Former UFC Lightweight Champion Anthony Pettis also returned to the division where he was once king. Pettis earned a decision win over veteran Jim Miller.
UFC 213 also saw the fourth consecutive loss for Travis Browne, who at one time was one of the top UFC heavyweight contenders. Browne was submitted by Aleksi Oleinik.
