Bookies all over Las Vegas are eagerly awaiting the outcome of this weekend’s boxing match between Floyd “Money” Mayweather and UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor.
If McGregor can pull off the upset, it will be disastrous for bookies. As of today, 95 percent of the bets being placed on the fight are on McGregor being victorious.
“Ultimately, we want to be in a position where we win a significant amount on Mayweather, but we don’t want to be destroyed if McGregor wins,” John Murray, an oddsmaker at the Las Vegas Westgate Superbook, told ESPN. “We don’t want this fight to cost us our whole year.”
According to a recent ABC article, not only has 95 percent of all bets been placed on McGregor but also 85 percent of all the money wagered in the past few weeks has been on the UFC champion as well.
It is likely more bets will be placed on Mayweather this week, but if that doesn’t happen, bookies will have their fingers crossed on Mayweather staying undefeated.
Mayweather vs. McGregor will take place Aug. 26 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
As of today, there have been 277 bets on Floyd Mayweather @MGMRaceSports. There have been over 6,000 bets on Conor McGregor.
