UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor has responded to boxers making fun of his training methods.
Boxing champions such as David Haye have mocked McGregor for his movement training. On Wednesday, McGregor discussed boxers mocking him during a conference call with the media.
“It is what it is. It’s light hearted. I don’t take it personally. If anything, I see stiffness in every single one of them,” McGregor said.
“You must have the limbs free. The shoulders must be disconnected. You must have the ability to disconnect the shoulders and reconnect it at the point of impact. That skill set is how you can change a jab to a hook in a blink of an eye.”
McGregor then went on to share his thoughts on Hayes and critiqued his training methods.
“I’ve seen David Haye hit pads,” McGregor said. “You can’t hit pads when the shoulder is disconnected. You hit when the should is disconnected and you’ll do serious damage to yourself, and David Haye is a man who pulled out of a contest due to a sore baby toe. He must be careful with the way he hits pads.”
McGregor is currently training to make his professional boxing debut. McGregor will fight Floyd “Money” Mayweather on Aug. 26 in Las Vegas.
