Khabib Turns Down Offer To Fight Barboza, Manager Lists Their Demands

UFC lightweight contender Khabib Nurmagomedov is demanding that his next fight in the UFC will be for a title.

On Wednesday, Ariel Helwani, of MMA Fighting, said there were discussions of Nurmagomedov fighting fellow UFC lightweight contender Edson Barboza in December.

Nurmagomedov’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz, responded to Helwani and said Nurmagomedov will only fight for a UFC championship.

“Khabib is only fighting for title or fighting Conor (McGregor),” Abdelaziz said on Twitter. “Everyone need to stop assuming this is the only way he’s fighting.”

On Tuesday, UFC President Dana White confirmed that Tony Ferguson and Kevin Lee will fight for an interim lightweight title at UFC 216 on Oct. 7.

UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor is currently unavailable to defend his title due to him fighting Floyd “Money” Mayweather in a boxing match on Aug. 26.

Nurmagomedov is ranked No. 1 in the official UFC lightweight rankings. He is currently undefeated with 24 wins and has eight wins in the UFC.
