Khabib Nurmagomedov’s camp is claiming they never turned down a fight against fellow lightweight contender Tony Ferguson for UFC 217.
Recently, both Nurmagomedov and Ferguson have been trading insults on social media and have agreed to fight each other on Nov. 4 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
On Thursday, Ferguson sent out a tweet saying Nurmagomdov’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz, turned down the fight.
“Your MGR (Ali Abdelaziz) Informed (UFC) U Are Not Well Enough To Fight Me At MSG, Turned Down The Fight On Your Behalf. Don’t Fool Your Fans,” Ferguson said on Twitter.
Later in the day, Abdelaziz sent a text message to FloCombat saying what Ferguson said isn’t true.
“Tony is full of (expletive),” Abdelaziz said. “We accepted the fight (and) never turned down MSG. He’s looking for an easy way out. He wants to fight someone else.”
Ferguson and Nurmagomedov are among the top contenders in the UFC lightweight division. If the two were to fight, there would be no doubt as to who is the most deserving of a UFC title opportunity.
