Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Fabricio Werdum is expected to fight heavyweight contender Derrick Lewis at UFC 216.
According to Ariel Helwani, of MMA Fighting, multiple sources have confirmed the fight is expected to take place in Las Vegas.
Werdum is coming off a close decision loss to former title challenger Alistair Overeem last month.
Lewis is coming off a knockout loss to Mark Hunt back in June. After the fight, Lewis said he was retiring from the sport, but it appears it didn’t take him long to change his mind.
UFC 216 will take place Oct. 7 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The UFC has yet to confirm what the main event will be, but the promotion has announced a title fight for the event.
Lightweight contenders Tony Ferguson and Kevin Lee will fight for a lightweight interim championship.
Fabricio Werdum vs. Derrick Lewis is targeted for UFC 216 on 10/7, per multiple sources. More coming to @MMAFighting shortly.
