Nevada Denies Mayweather’s Request For Smaller Gloves

The state of Nevada will not allow Floyd “Money” Mayweather and UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor to compete in 8oz gloves.

On Tuesday, Mayweather sent out a message on his social media accounts claiming that he would be willing to fight in smaller gloves if McGregor needed the advantage.

McGregor later responded by saying the size of the gloves doesn’t matter to him.

Regardless, the two are competing later this month in a boxing match that is being contested at 154 pounds. According to the state of Nevada’s rules and regulations, a fight at that weight must be fought with 10oz gloves for the fighters safety.

“These regulations are in place for the health and safety of the athletes, which is of the utmost importance to the commission,” Bob Bennett, Nevada commission executive director, told ESPN. “Our regulations already outline the appropriate glove size according to contracted weight of a fight.”
