Two of the top strawweight in the UFC are set to move up to the women’s flyweight division.
“Rowdy” Bec Rawlings is scheduled to fight Joanne Calderwood at 125 pounds at a UFC Fight Night event in Sydney, Australia on Nov. 19.
Rawlings will be fighting in her home country the next time she steps foot in the Octagon. Rawlings has campaigned for a women’s flyweight division in the UFC for quite some time, and now she will be one of the first women to compete in the new weight class.
In her last two fights, Rawlings was on the losing end of tough battles against Paige VanZant and Tecia Torres. Prior to those losses, Rawlings was on a two-fight win streak in the UFC. She picked up impressive wins over Lisa Ellis and Seo Hee Ham.
Calderwood is coming off a decision loss to Cynthia Calvillo. In her previous fight, she was submitted by Jessica Andrade.
Before losing her last two fights, Calderwood defeated former title challenger Valerie Letourneau in the only previous flyweight fight in UFC history.
The UFC’s next event in Australia will be headlined by a heavyweight battle between Mark Hunt and Marcin Tybura.
