UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor is gearing up to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. inside a boxing ring. As part of his training, the UFC champion has enlisted a few talented boxers for sparring practice. However, things have not been going well inside the McGregor camp.
Retired boxer Paul Malignaggi recently departed from McGregor’s camp after a series of sparring photos were leaked. The departure has since led some fight fans to speculate if McGregor and Malignaggi will ever meet inside a boxing ring for fans to see. Now, the retired boxer has come forward with his thoughts on the matter.
In an interview with Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour, Malignaggi was asked if he would ever consider facing the UFC champion in a promoted fight. The boxer responded, “Honestly, I retired in March. I didn’t intend for any of this to happen. I don’t know.”
That being said, Malignaggi is plenty confident he could take the UFC lightweight champion in a boxing match. “Me, through a full training camp, I don’t think I would have a problem with him.” He said.
