The highly anticipated boxing match between Floyd “Money” Mayweather and UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor will now be fought in eight-ounce gloves.
On Wednesday, the Nevada State Athletic Commission approved Mayweather and McGregor’s request to fight in smaller gloves.
With the fight happening at 154 pounds, they were originally scheduled to fight with 10-ounce gloves.
Mayweather’s reasoning for wanting the smaller gloves was to not allow McGregor to make excuses when he loses the fight.
McGregor wanted the smaller gloves because he is used to wearing four-ounce gloves in the UFC. With smaller gloves, McGregor predicts he will defeat Mayweather within the first two rouds of their fight.
Mayweather vs. McGregor will take place Aug. 26 in Las Vegas.
After the commission agreed to let the fighters fight in smaller gloves, many of the best fighters in the world of MMA shared their opinion on how it would effect the fight.
they better hope a Magomed Abdusalamov or Gerald McClellan situation dont happen.

Eight ounce gloves…?!? I'm shocked! It's a good show of confidence from the Mayweather camp. Very interesting… #MayMac

I don't think so… More likely that Floyd hurts his hands on Conor's head and holds back on his power. https://t.co/lNe66CJe6o

I think so. Smaller gloves to cover with, to find targets through the guard, harder to hold onto in the clinch… https://t.co/fLxJTR0ZRa
