According to referee Joe Cortez, UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor has adapted well to the sport of boxing.
Cortez joined McGregor training camp to make sure he understood all the rules of boxing prior to his professional boxing debut.
On Saturday, McGregor is scheduled to fight boxing legend Floyd “Money” Mayweather.
Days before the fight, Cortez was asked about McGregor’s boxing skills and his ability to adapt to the sport.
“He’s one of the fastest learners I’ve ever seen,” Cortez said. “He picked it up really good. He has a lot of natural talent, but also from MMA, he had some conditioning and some techniques that are going to help him in his fight with Mayweather on Saturday night.
“McGregor is an excellent student, and he passed with flying colors.”
Since McGregor has been training in Las Vegas, Cortez has been inside the ring for all of his sparring sessions.
McGregor will fight Mayweather on Aug. 26 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
