UFC welterweight prospect “Platinum” Mike Perry will not have to cut weight prior to his next UFC fight.
On Sept. 16, Perry will fight former UFC title challenger Thiago Alves in the co-main event of a UFC Fight Night.
Leading up to the fight, Perry has been active on social media and has revealed he is already close to making weight for his fight at 170 pounds.
“A couple weeks out sitting at 177 feeling great,” Perry wrote on Instagram. “Fast as lightning! Figuring this body out. Comfortable in any situation.”
At age 25, Perry is one of the top prospects in the welterweight division. In his last fight, Perry earned the biggest win of his career when he knocked out longtime welterweight contender Jake Ellenberger in April.
Overall, Perry has a 10-1 MMA record with three wins in the UFC. Perry’s only loss in the UFC came after he lost a decision to Alan Jouban. In his other two UFC outings, Perry knocked out Danny Roberts and Hyun Gyu Lim. All 10 of Perry’s MMA wins have come by knockout or TKO.
Perry will have a tough challenge in his next fight. Alves is a veteran in the UFC and has fought many of the promotions’ best fighters.
Alves is coming off a decision win over fellow UFC title challenger Patrick Cote back in April.
Throughout his MMA career, Alves has fought 22 times inside the Octagon. His UFC career is highlighted by wins against Chris Lytle, Josh Koscheck, Jordan Mein, and UFC Hall of Famer Matt Hughes.
Perry will fight Alves at the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The event will be headlined by the return of former UFC Middleweight Champion Luke Rockhold, who is scheduled to fight middleweight contender David Branch.
