Showtime Wants More Boxing vs. UFC Fighter Events

Showtime Executive Stephen Espinoza is interested in doing more boxing events featuring UFC fighters.

Last month, one of the biggest events in combat sports history took place when UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor made his professional boxing debut.

Showtime Sports distributed the boxing match between McGregor and Floyd “Money” Mayweather, and the fight is one of the most successful pay-per-view events of all time.

On Tuesday, Espinoza appeared on The MMA Hour and said he would be willing to do more boxing matches featuring well-known MMA fighters.

“I think that there are a limited number of athletes that have the appeal, have the desire, and have the skill to do both. It’s a business opportunity on both sides,” Espinoza said. “At some level it’s up to the MMA promoters if they feel like that’s something that benefits them in the long run and benefits their athletes in the long run. But from this side of the table, I think it’s very intriguing and we’d love to do more of it.”

Espinoza also went on to say that many UFC stars, both male and female, have reached out to Showtime about potentially fighting in a boxing match. However, he would not disclose any names.
