UFC bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes was initially set to face off against Velentina Shevchenko in the main event of UFC 213. However, the champion pulled out of the match up with just hours to go before the big event. Following the main event’s sudden cancellation, UFC President Dana White claimed he would never have Amanda Nunes in a main event again.
“I won’t do that again,” White told L.A. Times.
“A lot of fighters have had times where they don’t feel right. … I don’t know that I’ve ever had a situation like today, where she was physically capable to fight” and didn’t, White said. “It was 90% mental and 10% physical.” He continued.
Now, with Demetrious Johnson and Ray Borg out of tomorrow night’s UFC 215 main event, Nunes and Shevchenko are set to face off in the main event for their big title fight rematch.
