UFC heavyweight No. 1 contender Alistair Overeem is on a run for the title. Set to face off against a rising knockout artist of the division in Francis Ngannou, Overeem claims he is only one fight away from a title shot.
Alistiar Overeem is set to take on Francis Ngannou at UFC 218. Overeem is riding a two fight winning streak, with his most recent win being a majority decision victory over Fabricio Werdum. Francis Ngannou, however, is currently undefeated inside the octagon. The fighter is currently riding an impressive nine fight winning streak.
Appearing on a recent edition of The MMA Hour, Alistair Overeem revealed that he was promised a title shot if he can defeat the knockout artist at UFC 218.
Speaking on the matter, Overeem added:
“I’m ranked No. 1. I would be eligible to fight for the title now, but I also stated that If I need to run through someone else before then, we will do that.”
Speaking on his future in the sport, Overeem stated:
“I’m a fighter and I like to be active. There are some fighters that don’t fight for a year or year and half. I just need to get in there. We also need to realize that I am 37-years-old and this is the final stretch of my career. A couple of years left. So, I want to stay active after 20 years of fighting… you don’t want to have breaks.”
Alistair Overeem will face off against Francis Ngannou at UFC 218 on Dec. 2 in Detroit, Michigan.
