McGregor Disappointed He Sold Himself Short Against Mayweather For A Paycheck

Current, reigning UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor.

It’s now in the books. UFC megastar Conor McGregor tried to take over the world of boxing in a single fight, but ultimately came short. Now “Notorious” has come forward to reveal that he feels like he may have “sold myself out.” Conor McGregor is expected to have profited around $100 million from his boxing debut.

UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor made his professional boxing debut on Aug. 26 inside the T-Mobile Arena. For his debut, the champion took on boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. The fight made for Mayweather’s 50th performance inside the squared circle.

That being said, Conor McGregor held his own against the boxing legend for nine rounds. In the tenth, Floyd Mayweather Jr. put Conor McGregor away for a TKO victory. Mayweather then returned to his retirement with a perfect 50-0 record.

Speaking to Caroline Pearce at An Evening with Conor McGregor, a recent fan Q&A event, Conor McGregor offered a recollection of the highly anticipated fight and provided some of his thoughts.

During the fight, the UFC lightweight champion grabbed Floyd Mayweather Jr. from behind on multiple occasions. However, the referee was quick to break things up. Speaking on the incident, McGregor said:

“Make no mistake. Every time I took his back in that f**king fight, and the referee separated us, in a real fight it’s done right there. That was the part for me that I had to get over the most.

“I almost feel like I sold myself out. I put so many skills and so many shots in my back pocket for a pay check and a big event. That’s been messing with my head a little bit.”
