Former UFC title challenger and the only man to come close to halting Demetrious Johnson’s run at flyweight dominance, Ian “Uncle Creepy” McCall jut announced that he’s been released by the UFC.
Ian McCall was at one-time the #1 ranked Flyweight fighter in the world. He entered the UFC’s flyweight tournament as the #1 flyweight in the world and he fought current champion Demetrious Johnson to a draw in that tournament.
He has since been plagued with injuries and layoffs.
McCall has seen mixed results in his UFC career, and stated on today’s MMA Hour that a lot of personal problems, including a divorce and more were the reasons for his sudden decline inside the cage.
McCall stated on the show that he requested his UFC release, and on good terms the UFC granted it. McCall hopes to return to action overseas and is eyeing RIZIN and ONE FC, promotions he feels will give him a bigger promotional push than the UFC.
The once top flyweight in the world believes he’s still the best and hopes that with the right promotion he can become a star.
