Ever since UFC megastar Conor McGregor’s boxing debut, fight fans have been speculating as to what will be next for “Notorious.” Rumors have spread in all directions. Some fans are vying for a lightweight battle between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor. UFC President Dana White recently put his foot down and claimed that McGregor will be facing the newly crowned interim champion Tony Ferguson. However, McGregor’s camp appears to be of a different mindset. They want what a mass of fans have been waiting for, a trilogy rematch with Nate Diaz.
Appearing on Submission Radio, SBG Ireland coach Owen Roddy admitted that a fight against Tony Ferguson is sensible. However, the coach also hearkened back to his original statement on wanting a trilogy fight against Nate Diaz.
Speaking on the potential of a fight against Diaz over Ferguson, Roddy said:
“I think people would rather see Conor vs. Diaz. I just think it’s a more exciting fight for everybody.”
The coach also mentioned the difference between McGregor taking on Diaz over Ferguson:
“I think the one unique thing that Diaz has is just that unbelievable chin. I don’t think Ferguson would be able to take the shots that Diaz took.
“I think he would be asleep or the ref would have stepped in and have stopped the fight if Conor lands. Where Diaz, Conor was landing all the shots on Diaz as well and all the other stuff that we came up with worked against Diaz. It’s just he kept coming and coming and coming and coming.
His coach simply believes Tony Ferguson is too easy to hit, and can’t take the punches Conor will land.
“I don’t think Ferguson is as durable as Diaz, so I think we’ll be well able to land the shots. You know, there’s plenty of holes in there in Ferguson’s game and I think we can capitalize and land any shots that we need to land.”
