UFC President Dana White is an avid fan of combat sports, that much is clear. While White is leading the world’s most famous mixed martial arts promotion, the UFC president’s first combat sports passion was boxing. Now it would appear that Dana White is considering bringing the pugilist sport under the UFC banner.
UFC megastar Conor McGregor made his professional boxing debut in one of the year’s most highly anticipated cross-promotional match ups earlier this year. For the fighter’s opponent, “Notorious” faced off against undefeated boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Mayweather earned a TKO victory over his opponent in the tenth round, bringing the legend’s perfect record to 50-0. Still, McGregor walked away with the payday of his career. Dana White recently revealed that the event has broken a swath of records, including total pay-per-view sales. Of course, the match likely would have never occurred if Dana White had not stepped in to assist in the negotiations leading up to the event.
Speaking to the Wall Street Journal, White revealed that he could vision the UFC including boxing events in the future.
“I could see bringing boxing under our umbrella and trying to see what we could do with that. I could see doing that.”
