The Eddie Bravo Invitational hosted another tournament on Sunday, with an unexpected technique thrown into the mix by one competitor.
The EBI tournaments were started by Eddie Bravo, the founder of acclaimed BJJ camp 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu. Since the tournaments founding, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioners have been gathering together to compete for total sport dominance. With so many martial artist under one roof, new techniques are destined to make their way onto the mat. For this fighter, the technique at hand involved a rather unorthodox guard.
During the semi-finals, one competitor decided to grab his ankles and spread his legs as far as possible to achieve a unique guard position from the ground. His opponent can be seen appearing stunned by the odd moment in the photo below.
In the day’s finals, Garry Tonon successfully defended his lightweight belt from Vagner Rocha with a heel hook submission.
