Former UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum was initially set to take on Derrick Lewis at last night’s highly anticipated UFC event. However, the fight was simply not meant to be.
Just hours away from their main event match up in Las Vegas, Nev. for UFC 216, Derrick Lewis pulled out of the fight due to a back injury. Left without one of the pay-per-view main card’s big fights, the UFC was left scrambling for a short notice replacement for Lewis.
Walt Harris was initially set to take on Mark Godbeer on the night’s preliminary card. But, the fighter was asked last minute to step up to the main card to take on the former heavyweight champion and fill the gap left by Derrick Lewis. Harris would go on to face Fabricio Werdum, but things simply did not go the fighter’s way.
Werdum made quick work of his opponent with a first round armbar submission of his opponent within the first minute of the fight. Now highlights from the night’s heavyweight match up can be seen below.
