Khabib Nurmagomedov has had a rough year. The top contender was set to take on Tony Ferguson for the lightweight interim title at UFC 209. The two were locked in for the night’s highly anticipated co-main event. However, the fight would never come to pass.
“The Eagle” suffered weight management issues that forced the fighter to be rushed to a nearby hospital. As a result, the night’s exciting interim title fight was pulled on short notice.
“El Cucuy” would go on to earn the interim lightweight title at UFC 216 by chocking out Kevin Lee, getting Tony Ferguson one step closer to a championship fight against UFC superstar Conor McGregor. In the meantime, Nurmagomedov has been recovering from his weigh management issues and preparing for his next potential octagon performance.
“The Eagle” recently revealed that he is targeting an octagon return for Dec. 30 at UFC 219. Shortly after, Edson Barboza revealed that he was offered a fight against the top contender for later this year and that he would gladly take on “The Eagle.” Now it would appear that UFC commentating veteran Joe Rogan is now claiming that the two fighters will be facing each other for their next octagon performances.
In the video below, Joe Rogan speaks with his podcast co-host Brendan Schaub and longtime friend 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu founder Eddie Bravo on what is next for Khabib Nurmagomedov. Rogan went on to state that Nurmagomedov will be fighting Edson Barboza for his next bout.
