A Rizin Grand Prix took place Sunday night and has since drawn some controversy. It was not the fighters, the promoters or an unruly fan. Rather, color-commentator Chris Cordeiro has come under fire after a series of sexist comments stated during the live broadcast of the event.
As seen in the video above, Cordeiro mispronounces the names of fighters. He stumbles over introducing the fight location. But, the commentator is taking criticism over more brash remarks. Commenting on female fighter Rena Kubota, Cordeiro said “Her cuteness is probably what elevated her to main event status.”
Speaking on another female competitor, Cordeiro added “For 43 years old, Miyu Yamamoto doesn’t look bad for a female. Females don’t tend to age well.”
MMA Rising’s Robert Sargent took to Twitter to share his distaste for the incident as well. Check out his comments on the commentator’s brash remarks in the posts below.
"Her cuteness is probably what elevated her to main event status," Chris Cordeiro says of Rena Kubota. You are an idiot, sir.

Chris Cordeiro has so far pronounced Yamato Fujita's first name as "Yamoto" and "Yamamoto," and the fight hasn't even begun yet.

Chris Cordeiro says that Sakuraba and Shamrock are "not that far past their prime." Yeah, only 10+ years. It's like yesterday, man.

We're heading into Fight #13 on this card and Chris Cordeiro still doesn't know the name of the promotion he's commentating for.
