The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) made a trip to Sao Paulo, Brazil on Saturday for UFC Fight Night 119. In the night’s co-main event, welterweights Colby Covington and Brazil’s Demian Maia went toe-to-toe for division dominance.
The two fighters put on a bloody war, but Covington ultimately earned a unanimous decision victory over his opponent. While the crowd was seemingly stunned by Covington’s victory over their native fighter, Covington drew the ire of the arena with his post-fight interview.
Directly after his performance, Covington referred to Brazil as a “dump” and its citizens as “filthy animals.” As a result, the fighter was rushed out of the arena, as fans began throwing food and cursing at Covington.
