UFC strawweight star Paige VanZant was supposed to face Jessica Eye a few weeks ago at UFC 216 but a herniated disc forced her to withdraw from the fight just prior to the event. VanZant had a lot of success in the strawweight division, but the weight cut down to 115lbs was becoming too much for her.
“It’s a big cut for me. I’m a lot heavier than people realize,” VanZant said in an earlier interview. “I was honestly killing myself for this sport. In my last I want to say two fights or three fights, I’ve passed out in my bathroom. This last one, I passed out and had the doctors almost not cleared me for the fight. “I’m a big advocate for body positivity, and I was putting myself through an eating disorder to make weight,” she continued. “And it became not fun for me anymore. I hate cutting. I hated the process. Obviously, passing out on your bathroom floor is not fun, because you’re dying in a bathtub.”
The back injury Paige suffered was only the beginning of her problems though. Only a few days after being pulled from the event, she revealed an entire list of ailments she was dealing with.
“When it rains it pours.” Paige VanZant said via her Twitter. “Herniated disc, double ear infection, sinus infection, pink eye and ringworm all right now! Send me good vibes.”
But it looks like the UFC star is finally feeling better and ready to return. VanZant posted a picture a few days ago showing off her new 125lb, flyweight physique and also says she’s back in training.
“Thank you Dr Tollinar. Back in the gym.” VanZant said.
