The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) returned this weekend for another big card, this time from Shanghai for UFC Fight Night 122. In the main event of the evening former UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping will make a quick turnaround from his UFC 217 defeat and face Kelvin Gastelum. The original main event was scheduled to be Anderson Silva versus Kelvin Gastelum, but Silva was pulled following a failed USADA drug test.
However, before the main event kicks off, UFC featherweights Alex “Bruce Leroy” Caceres is taking on Chinese mixed martial arts prospect Wang Guan in a main card fight. Caceres comes into the fight holding notable wins over top names like Sergio Pettis, Cole Miller and also a recent win over Rolando Dy from this past June at UFC Fight Night 111.
Kickboxing expert Wang Guan is making his debut at UFC Fight Night 122, and does hold an impressive professional record of 16-1, though this fight against Cacares will certainly be a different caliber of competition.
In the bout’s first round, Guan put Cacares on his bicycle quick with solid strikes that dropped the UFC veteran. Guan holds 13 first round knockouts, and by the looks of it, he’s going for a 14th.
Two rounds in and it was more of the same. Guan the more dominant striker, dropping Cacares again, this time a little more damaging.
Cacares was able to make it out of round 2, and put on a solid effort in round 3, but the UFC newcomer’s striking abilities are just too much for him.
UFC results: Wang Guan defeats Alex Cacares via split-decision, (28-29, 29-28, 29-28)
