Despite Recent Assault Case, Dana White Says Volkan Still Next For Cormier Title Fight

UFC light heavyweight contender Volkan Oezdemir was recently arrested by Fort Lauderdale Police and placed in Broward County jail, before making bail for his release. The fighter was arrested for aggravated battery following a physical altercation outside of a bar in Fort Lauderdale.

The light heavyweight contender is currently on a five fight winning streak, with his most recent victory being a vicious first round knockout over Jimi Manuwa at UFC 214. The fighter has since become UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier’s number one target for his next performance inside the octagon.

Cormier hosted a poll over social media for his fans in order to choose his next opponent. After the poll was completed, Cormier revealed that he was interested in facing Oezdemir for his next fight. However, the contender’s recent arrest put those plans on halt.

However, speaking at a recent media lunch, UFC President Dana White revealed that Volkan Oezdemir is still likely to get his title shot against Daniel Cormier, despite his recent arrest for a felony charge.

Oezdemir is innocent of his alleged crimes until proven guilty in a court of law.
