Undefeated pugilist legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. pulled himself out of retirement this year to face off for one final match inside the squared circle. UFC superstar Conor McGregor called out the undefeated boxer for his highly anticipated professional boxing debut. “Notorious” and Mayweather went toe-to-toe on Aug. 26, 2017 for one of the year’s most highly-anticipated sporting events.
Conor McGregor gave it his all and appeared to actually win the first round against the pugilist legend. However, McGregor slowly tired as the rounds persisted. Mayweather took out “Notorious” in the tenth round for a TKO victory. That in mind, both fighters still walked away with dazzling paydays. McGregor made the payday of his career with an expected $100 million from his boxing debut.
Floyd Mayweather Jr. is believed to have earned a grand total of $300 million from the match up. Mayweather vs. McGregor went on to break the pay-per-view sales record previously held by Mayweather vs. Pacquiao.
All of that in mind, rumors have since been spreading that Mayweather is interested in coming back out of retirement for yet another fight. However, it would appear that the 50-0 undefeated boxing legend may have retired for good after all.
In a brief interview with Fight Hype, Mayweather put an end to the recent rumors of his return. The former boxer said, “I’m happily retired. I’m not fighting no more, no matter what the price is.”
