Prior to UFC 217, Joanna Jedrzejczyk had not faced a defeat in her mixed martial arts career. The fighter had cultivated a dazzling 14 fight winning streak, with victories over some of the toughest fighters in the mixed martial arts promotion. Still, things simply did not go Jedrzejczyk’s way on Saturday’s main card.
UFC 217 went down on Saturday inside the Madison Square Garden Arena in New York. In one of the three exciting title fights from the night, Joanna Jedrzejczyk went toe-to-toe with tough contender Rose Namajunas.
Namajunas came in as an underdog to many fight fans. That in mind, “Thug” Rose earned a stunning TKO finish over Jedrzejczyk within the first round. With the New York crowd on their feet, Namajunas was crowned the new UFC strawweight champion.
