Joanna Jedrzejczyk was on a dominant warpath through the UFC strawweight division. Until UFC 217, the fighter was undefeated with a stunning 14 fight winning streak. However, the fighter lost her UFC strawweight title in a tough first round TKO loss to Rose Namajunas at Saturday’s UFC 217. Now the fighter is asking people to stop comparing her to Ronda Rousey.
Former UFC bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey put on a dominant run within the UFC, similar to Joanna Jedrzejczyk. However, Rousey has seemingly stepped away from the octagon after taking her past two consecutive losses with some difficulty.
Speaking in the UFC 217 post-fight press conference, Joanna Jedrzejczyk said:
“No no, please don’t compare me to Ronda Rousey and I love her so much and we have very good relationship, but please let’s leave this bullshit away. I never take fights personal and I’m not emotional when fighting.”
Continuing her thoughts, the now former champion said:
“This is what happens. Big congrats to Rose, I’m happy for her, but it was not personal, you know? This is what happened. The things which happened before the fight had nothing to do with this fight. It was a good punch, she cut me off, I really don’t know what happened, but it’s the fight you know? We take these risks.”
As far as what is next for the fight, Jedrzejczyk would like a rematch.
“I will sit and talk to Dana and the UFC, I think I’ve been a good athlete and a good champion for the UFC. I think I deserve the rematch. If I get the rematch we will see, I am looking forwards.”
