The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) headed to New York on Saturday night for the highly anticipated fight card of UFC 217. The event hosted a series of enticing match ups, including the octagon return of Georges St-Pierre in one of three total title fights.
During the night’s co-main event, Cody Garbrandt was looking to make his first title defense. The fighter earned the belt back at UFC 207 with a unanimous decision victory over Dominick Cruz. For his first defense of the belt, the fighter faced off against former champion and former teammate T.J. Dillashaw on Saturday night.
The crowd was already in shock, as Rose Namajunas had just taken out UFC strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk with a first round finish. This time around, Dillashaw earned a TKO finish over his title holding opponent in the second round.
