Former UFC competitor and current Bellator fighter Chael Sonnen has had a controversial history when it comes to drug tests. The fighter has failed drug tests multiple times during his career as a mixed martial artist. Most notably in 2014, the NSAC revealed that Sonnen had failed a drug test for human growth hormone (HGH), recombinant human erythropoietin (EPO), anastrozole, and human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). The fighter had announced his retirement from the octagon just weeks before the public reveal of the news.
Before that, Sonnen was suspended by the CSAC for failing a drug test for an extremely high testosterone/epitestosterone (T/E) ratio concerning his fight against Anderson Silva back in 2010.
That being said, Sonnen has not seemingly had any issues passing his drug tests under the Bellator MMA banner. The fighter has gone on to face Wanderlei Silva and Tito Ortiz under the mixed martial arts promotion. Sonnen suffered a submission loss to Ortiz, before returning to Bellator to earn a unanimous decision victory over Silva. Now the fighter is set to face off against Quinton Jackson at Bellator 192 as part of the promotion’s new heavyweight tournament grand prix. The winner of the grand prix will be awarded the Bellator heavyweight title.
Will all of that in mind, here is a look at Chael Sonnen’s physique as it has changed through the years. Check out the fighter’s form before and after being tested for performance enhancing drugs in the photo below:
