It would appear that UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier is considering a return to the heavyweight division. Cormier kicked off his mixed martial arts career from the heavyweight division, but ultimately made his way to the light heavyweight class of the world’s most famous mixed martial arts promotion. With brutal knockout artist Francis Ngannou and reigning champion Stipe Miocic sitting atop the heavyweight division, the transition will not be an easy one for the fighter.
Speaking to MMA Junkie, Cormier broke down his thoughts on potentially returning to the division to take the heavyweight title.
“I’m not going in there to lose and say I gave it my best shot,” Cormier said. “If I go in there with Miocic or Ngannou, I’m going to win. That’s just who I am. So that would just be me and my team really coming up with a solid plan on how I’m going to get up to a healthy, strong, 235, 240 pounds to go and fight those dudes.”
Still, Cormier already has a lot on his plate. The fighter will be defending his title from Volkan Oezdemir at UFC 220. The pay-per-view event goes down Jan. 20, 2018 inside the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts.
