Elliot Refuses To Fight Overweight Opponent Tomorrow, Is Pissed He’s Not Getting Paid For Cancelled Fight

It’s been a brutal few weeks for UFC on FOX 26 fighter Tim Elliot. After being scheduled for tomorrow night’s card for months, he lost his original opponent due to injury, but the UFC was able to secure him a last minute replacement.  Pietro Menga got the call to step in and was given the opportunity of a lifetime. However, Menga showed up extremely overweight during today’s early morning UFC weigh in. As a result, Elliot refused to fight Menga, who was medically cleared, and now Elliot is pissed the UFC isn’t paying him.

Often times fighters will take 20% of their opponents purse when a fighter misses weight, so they can keep their fights intact. However, former title challenger and TUF winner Tim Elliot is one of the rare few who decided to not cut his opponent any slack, and declined to move the bout to a catchweight and save the card.

It’s well within his rights to do so too. Elliot made his contracted weight this morning, and weight classes are in place for a reason. Tim’s opponent, though medically cleared to fight, would have hit the scales and missed weight be a reported five pounds.

The fighter, after Elliot declined to fight, never even attempted to make weight, and as such the fight has been removed entirely from tomorrow night’s event.

With the Holidays in full swing, and a two-year-old child that he cares for, Tim Elliot is speaking out on the UFC’s decision to not pay him his full fight purse.

Check it out:

I should not get half my pay because other fighters can’t do their jobs, first opponent got injured, seconds missed weight.

@danawhite @Mickmaynard2 please make this right, I always show up, I always make weight, and I got a 2 year old kid to support. I did my job.
