Felice Herrig is now on a tear through the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s strawweight division. Already on a three fight winning streak, the fighter put on an impressive performance on Saturday night, Dec. 2. That being said, fight fans are currently talking some things that went on inside the octagon during Herrig’s most recent performance.
The world’s most famous mixed marital arts promotion was in Detroit, Michigan on Saturday, Dec. 2, for the highly anticipated fight card of UFC 218. There inside the Little Caesars Arena, the UFC hosted a hoard of highly entertaining match ups. Among them, UFC strawweight Felice Herrig went toe-to-toe with Cortney Casey-Sanchez.
Herrig was on a three fight winning streak leading up to the event. Most recently, the fighter earned a unanimous decision victory over Justine Kish at UFC Fight Night 112. On the other hand, Casey-Sanchez was riding a decision win of her own over Jessica Aguilar from UFC 211.
Herrig and Casey-Sanchez went to war for the Detroit crowd an Saturday, with the fight ultimately going the distance. It was a close one to call, as each fighter gave it as well as they got. Still, Herrig walked away with a split decision victory over her opponent.
During the fight, the two fighters began yelling at each other and making obscene hand gestures to one another. At one point in the fight, Casey-Sanchez flicked a globule from her bleeding nose at her opponent. When asked in a media scrum after the fight why Casey-Sanchez went “full Diaz,” referencing Nate and Nick Diaz’s abilities to goad their opponents during match ups, Herrig responded:
“We both went full on Nick Diaz.” Herrig said. “I think she got a little upset, because I got her with a shot. I saw it on her face. I don’t know, fighters get emotional. She flicked a booger at me.”
Herrig later went to Instagram to state, “Sometimes you just gotta get a little bit ghetto.”
