The plot continues to thicken with the rumors of Floyd Mayweather crossing over to mixed martial arts. The news of this began to trickle out after Mayweather made a statement that he could go right to the UFC and earn the biggest payday of his career. In fact, he said the offer was currently on the table.
“They just called me not too long ago and asked me to come back.” Mayweather stated. “I can come right back. If I wanted to, I can come right back to the UFC. I can go fight in the Octagon. I can do a three- or four-fight deal in the Octagon and make a billion dollars. Remember, I’m Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather.”
Not many people know when Floyd is messing around or not, but when Joe Rogan revealed that the rumors were true, people started to take things more seriously. Then when UFC President Dana White confirmed what Rogan said, people knew there was definitely something there.
“We’re interested in doing something with Floyd. Everything is a realistic possibility. Mayweather vs. McGregor f—ing happened. Anything is possible.”
With that said, not many people give Mayweather a chance in the octagon. He’s not known for his knockout power, and as far as anyone knows, Floyd’s done no additional martial arts training.
However, elite boxing trainer Robert Garcia thinks that Mayweather would not only win in the octagon, but he’d beat UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor at his own game. Additionally, he believes Mayweather’s been training for quite awhile and would be very prepared to win in the UFC.
