UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic has been working hard to lock in a superior contract with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) as of late. With that in mind, it would appear that the reigning champion may have not been able to get what he wanted.
Miocic is on a tear through the heavyweight division. The title holder is on a five fight winning streak inside the octagon at the moment. Most recently, Miocic avenged a former loss by taking out former champion Junior dos Antos at UFC 211 with a first round TKO victory. The last four victories of Miocic’s have come by way of stoppage in the first round. With all of that in mind, Miocic’s team recently hinted that the fighter did not get his wishes in his latest UFC contract negotiation.
ESPN’s Brett Okamoto recently reported that when asked about the negotiations and if Miocic received his wishes, the fighter’s representatives responded:
“Stipe is most concerned with preserving the integrity of the sport, defending his title and becoming the most elite heavyweight of all time.”
Now, Stipe Miocic is set to defend his title once again. This time around, the fighter will be going face-to-face with rising MMA star Francis Ngannou at UFC 220. The event goes down Jan. 20, 2018 inside the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. UFC 220 will be available live on pay-per-view.
