UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway was in Detroit, Michigan on Saturday, Dec. 2, for UFC 218. The fighter headlined the card with an epic title fight rematch against former champion Jose Aldo. That being said, fellow former title holder Conor McGregor has since come forward with some critical word’s for the champion’s performance. Now Holloway has fired back.
The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) hosted the exciting event inside the Little Caesars Arena for fight fans tuning in to the pay-per-view show worldwide. Holloway was initially set to face off against Frankie Edgar for his title defense match up. However, Edgar suffered an injury that forced the fighter to pull out of the title fight. Jose Aldo picked up the open main event slot on short notice.
Holloway unified his title back at UFC 212 in a brawl with “Scarface.” The dominant featherweight fighter was a crowd favorite over Holloway going into the match, but Holloway unified his interim title with a third round TKO victory over Aldo.
Meeting inside the octagon once again at UFC 218, Holloway put on a dominant performance over Aldo and earned a consecutive third round TKO victory. However, Conor McGregor was seemingly not impressed. After all, McGregor dealt Aldo the only knockout loss of his career in a brutal 13 seconds at UFC 194.
Taking to Instagram, McGregor stated “I miss those sunglasses.”
Alongside the statement, McGregor posted a post-fight photo of Max Holloway from 2013. The picture is from right after Holloway’s unanimous decision loss to “Notorious” at UFC Fight Night 26. It is Holloway’s most recent loss, as the fighter is now on a 12 fight winning streak.

That being said, Holloway has now decided to fire back at the UFC lightweight champion. Over Instagram, Holloway stated “Miss the sunglasses? I bet you also miss 2015 brother. Retired fighters love the past.”
“Notorious” has not stepped inside the octagon since his TKO loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. in his boxing debut on Aug. 26, 2017. The UFC lightweight champion has also yet to have a fight inside the octagon officially announced.
